Worthington, the county seat of Nobles County, boasts a compelling history that dates back to its founding in the 1870s along the Burlington Railroad. This railway connection transformed the young settlement into a vital agricultural trade center, a role it continues to play today as a leading producer of turkey and pork in the region. The city's cultural landscape has been profoundly shaped by diverse immigrant communities, most notably a significant Lao and Vietnamese population that began resettling here in the 1980s, adding a vibrant multicultural dimension to this traditional Midwestern town. The city is neatly organized around its historic downtown district, where heritage brick buildings house local businesses, and the expansive Lake Okabena dominates the western skyline. The lake is not just a geographic feature but a central pillar of community life, hosting numerous festivals and providing year-round recreational opportunities. The Nobles County Pioneer Village offers a fascinating glimpse into the area's past, featuring preserved historic buildings and artifacts that tell the story of the region's early pioneers. Another key area is the corridor surrounding the Nobles County Fairgrounds, which serves as a major gathering space for the community.
