Hotels in Almere

Almere is a testament to Dutch engineering and vision, built entirely on polder land reclaimed from the sea. This history is deeply woven into the city's identity, as it exists where the Zuiderzee once flowed. Without the constraints of ancient infrastructure, urban planners designed Almere from scratch, resulting in a city with separate residential cores connected by green belts and efficient transit. The city is divided into several distinct districts: Almere Stad, the central hub featuring the striking Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland and the bustling City Center; Almere Haven, the oldest part with a more traditional marina feel; Almere Buiten, a family-friendly residential area; and Almere Poort, a newer development showcasing cutting-edge sustainable architecture. Culturally, Almere is rapidly carving out its own niche. The Kunstlinie serves as a major cultural center, hosting theater, visual arts, and performances. The city's youthful demographic brings a dynamic, diverse atmosphere, reflected in its modern eateries and community events. Almere is famous for its bold architecture, earning a reputation as a laboratory for contemporary design where architects experiment with unconventional shapes and sustainable materials. Furthermore, the juxtaposition of hyper-modern living next to the Oostvaardersplassen—a prime example of rewilding—makes Almere uniquely famous for offering both extreme urban innovation and untouched European wilderness within minutes of each other.
