Hotels in Arbon

Arbon is a town steeped in over two thousand years of history, with its roots tracing back to the Roman fort of Arbor Felix. This rich heritage is visible throughout the city, particularly in the Old Town where medieval architecture harmonizes with modern Swiss life. The crown jewel is the 13th-century Arbon Castle, which overlooks the lake and houses the local history museum. Culturally, Arbon is a vibrant hub within Thurgau, hosting various local festivals, open-air concerts in the summer, and a strong tradition of Swiss-German customs. The town is divided into distinct areas: the historic Old Town centered around the castle and church, the bustling lakefront and promenade, and the peaceful residential and recreational zones like Seepark. Arbon is famously known as the Pearl of the Bodensee, a nickname earned through its exceptionally well-preserved medieval core and its prime position on the lake. The local economy historically thrived on textile manufacturing and the SIG company, known for its packaging machinery, but today it has shifted towards tourism, small businesses, and tech. The community is tight-knit and welcoming, embodying the quintessential Swiss appreciation for quality, cleanliness, and natural preservation. The blend of industrial heritage and scenic leisure makes Arbon a fascinating microcosm of Swiss evolution, where visitors can experience both the historical depth and the relaxed, contemporary lifestyle of the Thurgau region.
